Dog Bandanna

Hello, Friends!  Marilyn here with a Sewing / Square 1 project.

I made this dog bandanna today for my grand-dog, Molly.

To make you'll need:

• Square fabric for bandanna
• 1 sheet of Square 1 Iron-on

Making the Bandanna:

Cut one square fabric piece to fit your pet.  Here's a general guide for sizing:

• Small = 14" square
• Medium = 18" square
• Large = 22" square
• Extra Large = 26" square

Molly is a black Labrador and I cut my fabric at 24" square.  If it's too big, they can roll the top down to fit her neck.

Fold fabric right sides together on the diagonal, making a triangle.  Sew the two open sides together leaving a space for turning.
Turn right side out and press.
Top stitch on the same two sewn sides, closing the open turn space in the process.
Note:  do not sew or top stitch along the top where the fold is.   This part of the bandanna is the selvage and needs to be able to have some give and stretch to make it comfortable on your pet.

Adding Bone and Name to Bandanna:

Find a bone image (there are many in the Silhouette Store available).   Color fill as desired (I used brown).   Add pet's name and fill text in white.  I used Impact font for mine. 
Add an offset of 0.08 to bone and use this as your cut line.
Print and cut image on a sheet of Square1 Iron-On.   Heat press image to front of bandanna at 380 degrees for 20 seconds.

Love Birds Pillow

So, I have this old pillow at my house.  It was given to my husband years ago by one of his friends and it says something about beer on it.   I liked the size, but the beer message - no so much.   Just doesn't go with my style. 

I measured the pillow and it came to 9.5" x 14".   Time for a remake.   I have scraps of fabric and we are hunkered down at home due to the cold weather. 

Using my Silhouette / Sublimation / Sewing skills today. 

I cut a piece of white polyester fabric at 8.5" x 8.5" and sublimated the love birds on it.

• These love birds are available in the Silhouette Store:  Design Id # 39240.

The rest is just adding a strip here and a strip there to come to the size I needed.  The back of the pillow is an envelope closure.

Using the very same design, I printed the Love Birds and Hearts on Square 1 Printable.

Polar Bear Decor

Hello, Friends!  Marilyn here with a sewing / Square 1 project.

I started with this cute pillow cover with polar bears.

To make you'll need:

• 8.5" x 8.5" square fabric for center
• Two 12.5" square fabric pieces cut on diagonal for front
• Two 13" x 17" fabric pieces for the back
• One 16" pillow form
• 1 sheet of Square 1 Iron-on

Back of Pillow:

Cut two 13" x 17" fabric pieces.   Make a 1" hem for each one and set aside.

Front of Pillow / Center:

Cut one 8.5" square of fabric. 
Cut 3 polar bear images (Design Id # 237739) at 3" in height out of Square1 Iron-On.   Align as your want on one side of 8.5" center piece.  Heat press at 325 degrees for 20 seconds.   Cut any part of Polar Bear image that extends past side of center fabric piece.
Mark middle of each of the four sides of center fabric piece.

Front of Pillow / Corners:

Cut two 12.5" square fabric pieces.  Cut each again on the diagonal so you end up with four triangle pieces of fabric.
Mark middle of each on long side.
Match right side middle of one triangle piece with middle right side of center fabric and sew quarter inch seam.  Do the same directly across from first sewn piece.  Cut off triangle fabric that extends past center square fabric. 
Sew remaining two triangles to center piece matching middle markings.
Square up finished front to 17 inch square size.
Front is complete.

Attach Front and Back:

Pin right sides together, over lapping two back pieces to create and envelope fold opening.
Sew quarter inch seam all around four sides.
Turn pillow cover right side out and insert 16" pillow form.

And now adding matching designs on my lampshade:

Snowman Family Ornaments

To make you'll need:

• Sublimation blank ornaments
• Sublimation ink / paper / printer
• Heat press
• Snowman family template

Sublimation blank ornaments:

Snowman Family Template:

• Purchased from PofSYNC:  http://www.pofsnyc.com/product/christmas-07

Create Ornaments:

• Modify your snowman family template with your family names / Christmas message (text on the sign).   Size the round portion at 2.75 plus about .1 for offset.  
• Heat press with light pressure for 40 seconds at 400 degrees.
• Cool ornament under a heavy object (like a big book) to keep from warping.
• Repeat process for other side of ornament.
• Put red ribbon (comes with the ornaments) through hole and add to Christmas Tree.

Essential Oil JOY Cozy

Essential Oil JOY Cozy

To make you'll need:

• 5.5" x 8.5" main fabric
• 5.5" x 8.5" interfacing
• 5.5" x 4.5" lining fabric
• snaps
• Essential Oil Inhaler Blanks
• About 15 drops of Essential Oil (I used Young Living Joy Essential Oil)
• 1 sheet of Square 1 Iron-on
• 1 sheet of Square 1 Printable

Sew the Essential Oil Cozy:

• Follow the video link above to create a snap closure cozy.

Create the Essential Oil Joy Inhaler:

• Put about 15 drops of Joy Essential Oil on a plate.  Roll the cotton wick and soak it up.   Put wick into the inhaler.   Close with cap.   

Create Square 1 Labels:

• I used Square 1 Printable to make by inhaler label.   Just print and cut and apply to inhaler - easy peasy.
• The JOY image on the front of my cozy was made using Square 1 Iron-On.   I created the image in Silhouette software.  TheN printed on SQ Iron-On and cut using my Silhouette Cameo.   I pressed the image onto the front of the cozy with a heat press set at 385 degrees for 5 seconds.

Hand Warmers

Hello, Friends!  Marilyn here with a Sewing / Square 1 project.

I made these fun little hand warmers today.

To make you'll need:

• Flannel fabric scraps
• 1 sheet of Square 1 Iron-on
• pinking scissors
• rice
• Fabric template was found at ShabbyFabrics.com

Using the template from ShabbyFabrics.com, cut 2 matching flannel fabric pieces.   Use your pinking scissors and cut around all edges.  This will keep edges from fraying. Sew edges wrong side together, leaving an opening for rice. 

Find images you want on the hand warmers.   Mine were all found in the Silhouette Store and were sized at 2.5 inches max (for width / length).   The heart needs to have a smaller image.  Print and cut on Square1 Iron-on.  You can get at least 6 images to one sheet.  Iron an image onto one side of hand warmer.  If using a heat press, set to 325 degrees for 4 seconds.

Pour rice into the hand warmer through the opening you left when sewing.   Using a funnel will make this much easier.  And you'll find that you don't need very much rice.

Go back to sewing machine and stitch the opening closed. 

Hand warmer is done!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Halloween Costume

Hello, Friends!  Marilyn here with a sewing / Square 1 project.

I made this darling little caterpillar outfit for my 2 year old granddaughter to wear for Halloween.

To make the dress you'll need:

• two different shades of green fabric
• two 7 inch strips of elastic
• 1 package of green bias tape
• 1 sheet of Square 1 Iron-on
• a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar book (to get food images for front of dress)

Cut the fabric strips at 5 inches wide.   Sew alternating colors together length wise.  After sewn, cut 4 inches off of one side to use for bottom of dress.

Using the 4 inch strip, fold in half width-wise and sew to bottom of dress making the hem.
Sew the two edges together making a tube.  Seam will be backside of dress.   Cut arm holes off the top (like a pillowcase dress).  Fold down and make casings in the front and back.   Cut two 7 inch strips of elastic (your choice on size).  Feed thru casing sewing down each end.   Use green bias tape and sew around the arm hole and elastic casing edges.   Leave enough length to allow tie at top. 

Dress is done.  To add food to front:

Scan food images from book and print on regular home printer.   Cut images out and iron onto the front of the dress.   If using a heat press:  set to 325 degrees for 4 seconds.

I used white tights and dyed them green for her legs. Dye pack was less than a dollar at Walmart.

Best Baby Shower Gifts for a New Mom

Hello, Friends!  I thought I would share with you my ideas of the best baby gifts for a new mom.

First item is an Elephant with Baby Stats:

Grey Baby Status Elephant

This is a Cubbie elephant and is about 11 inches in height.  The elephants come in several colors such as gray, light blue, pink, cream and yellow.  I used a grey elephant as this gift will be for a newborn baby boy.

The baby stats were sublimated on each ear at 400 degrees for 55 seconds.   They were pre-pressed at 20 seconds each.   I tied the little ribbon around the elephant's neck to make him a little cuter.

Once the elephant was done, I sewed a simple little bag to put the baby elephant in.  The fabric was cut at 30" width (or two 15" panels sewn together) by 24" in length.

The bottom of the bag was boxed at a 2 inch square to make a 4 inch bag base.  The top has a 1 inch hem.   Once the elephant was placed inside, I tied a little ribbon around it.

Second item is a fox baby onesie.  (Baby's middle name is Fox)   I used a fox image found on Etsy from Pixel Paper Prints.

Since the onesie is a cotton fabric, I added the image using Chromablast ink - not sublimation.   The onesie is a size 3-6 months and the image was sized at 3.25" x 3.25".   Application was 380 degrees for 25 seconds and pre-pressed for 20 seconds. 

What's nice about this is the fox image is permanently applied.  Baby's parents will not need to have any special washing instructions.   The onesie can be tossed into the washer along with other washable clothing and will look great wash after wash.

Lastly, I created a fox baby card to go in the package.

I used the same fox image that was used on the baby onesie.  The card is sized at 5.5" x 4.25".

Fall Mason Jars Pillow

Hello, Friends!  Marilyn here with a easy sewing / sublimation project.

This pillow is basically an envelope closure pillow that has a white polyester strip and ruffle on the front.   The finished pillow size is 18" x 18".

Fall Pillow

Supplies:

• Cotton fabric for pillow.
• Polyester fabric for front sublimation area
• Ruffle / lace strip
• Mason jar & flowers image - design # 93368 purchased from Silhouette store (.99 cents)
• 18" x 18" pillow form (mine was purchased at Hobby Lobby)

Steps:

• From blue cotton fabric:  cut one at 19" x 19", cut one at 19" x 13", cut one at 19" x 14".
• From white polyester fabric:  cut one at 19" x 8"
• From ruffle strip:  cut at 19" length
• Size the mason jar & flowers image at 9" x 5" and flip horizontally.  Sublimate onto the white polyester fabric.
• Following sublimation, serge the long edges of the white polyester.
• Sew the white polyester in the center of the 19" x 19" blue fabric.  I sewed all four edges.
• Sew the ruffle strip on the bottom edge of white polyester.
• Sew a 1 inch hem on the 19" x 13" and 19" x 14" fabric pieces.
• With right sides together, sew along all four sides of pillow fabric.

Finish:

• Flip the pillow right side out
• Inset 18" x 18" pillow form

Quillow - Blanket and Pillow

Hello, Friends!  Marilyn here with a quick and easy sewing project.  I found several YouTube videos that I used as my tutorial in creating my quillow.

What is a Quillow?   A quillow is basically a fleece blanket that folds into a pillow.  So, unfolded you have a fleece blanket.  Folded up, it's a pillow.   I thought these would be great to keep either in your car or on your couch.  They could be used to take to a football game, too.  You could sit on them; then if it gets cool, unfold and you have a nice warm blanket to use.

Supplies:

• Fleece blanket - I purchased mine at Walmart for $5.88.  Unfolded it's the size of a twin blanket.
• Two fat quarters - or two 18" x 18" square fabric pieces.

Steps:

• Sew the two fabric pieces or fat quarters right side together.  Leave a 2 inch opening for turning.  Once sewn, turn right side out and top stitch along the side that had the opening.  This creates your pillow portion.
• Fold blanket in half to locate the center (at top of blanket).  Pin to mark.
• Fold the pillow in half and pin to mark center.
• Alien the centers of pillow and blanket and stitch around 3 sides.  Leave the top open - you'll need it to inset the blanket when folding.

Fold:

• Lay your finished quillow down with pillow side on underside.  
• Fold blanket into thirds length-wise.  This basically folds each side up to seam of pillow.  
• Starting at bottom, start folding the blanket up until it is the same size as the pillow.
• Turn over to pillow side and flip pillow over to enclose the blanket.

Reading Pillow

Hello, Friends!  Marilyn here with a school fundraiser project.  I was asked by a teacher at a local elementary school to make some bingo prizes.

I created this Reading Pillow with an envelope closure on back and a cute image on the front.  The wrap portion seen on the front is used to insert a book.  I'm thinking this idea would be cute at Christmas time using different fabric and image and inserting new Christmas pajamas.

Finished pillow measures 14" x 14"

You'll need some basic sewing skills to create this envelope closure pillow.

Fabric Cutting:

• Front of pillow :  ABC fabric cut 15" x 15".
• Back of pillow:  two cuts of  ABC fabric  10" x 15"  and 11" x 15"
• Wrap:  one cut of white polyester fabric 7.5" x 15"

Sublimation Part:  

• Image of panda as well as the text were purchased for $3.00 from Etsy store BizzyLouDesigns

I opened the Panda image into my Silhouette software and changed the colors to my preference.  I also sized the image to 4.5" x 9.5"  to fit my wrap fabric.  Image was then "flipped" horizontally and printed onto Sublimation transfer paper.   Then I heat pressed the image onto my white polyester fabric at 390 degrees for 60 seconds.  

Sewing Part:

After cutting fabric, hem the two back ABC fabric pieces.  Hem both the top and bottom of the white polyester wrap - that now has the Panda and Text.

Position the white wrap onto the front ABC fabric and pin in place.  With right sides together, pin the two back fabric pieces to the front.   Sew 1/2" all the way around.   I also serged the edges.

Flip right side out - and it's done!
