Wedding Bouquet Keepsakes

Hello, Friends!  Marilyn here with a tutorial on preserving the bride's bouquet after the wedding.  My tip:  make sure your flowers are dried before using a dried floral preservative.

Shadow Box Keepsake

Here is what I used:
  • Shadow Box.  Mine is 8" x 10" and was purchased in a set of three from Michaels.
  • Vinyl - mine is brown to match fall wedding colors
  • Dried Floral Preservative - used to preserve the color and texture of the wedding bouquet flowers.  I used Gemini Masterpiece Dried Floral Preservative purchased at Hobby Lobby for $5.99.
  • Hot Glue / Hot Glue Gun
  • Designer Paper Scraps - left over from the wedding invitations and bridal shower
  • Cricut Cartridges - Beyond Birthdays, Doodlecharms and Storybook

Bridal Bouquet Shadow Box
  • Spray your dried flowers with Gemini Masterpiece Dried Floral Preservative.  Do this outside, this stuff is potent!
  • Cut background paper at 8" x 10".  I used ATG to tape right on to the back.  The designer paper was used in the bride's wedding invitations.
  • Heart = cut image and shadow at 5 1/2" from Cricut Doodlecharms [heart] found on page 85 of the folder.  Paper is again from the bride's invitations and decorations.
  • Glue and Hot Glue flower petals onto the heart.
  • Pearl band around heart - the pearls came from a roll purchased at Hobby Lobby.  We used the pearl strands originally on decorations for the wedding reception.  I just hot glued here and there to attach.

  • Bead Swatch - came from bride's bouquet.  I hot glued a portion onto the background.  A small flower blossom is attached to the top.
  • Date = cut date (10 19 13) at 1 1/2" from Cricut Storybook cartridge.  Shimmery Paper is from banner paper used at the bridal shower.
  • "love" = cut from brown vinyl and attached to outside of the glass.  Cut came from Cricut Beyond Birthdays cartridge and was cut at 2", [love] found on page 132 of the folder.

Christmas Ornament

Here is what I used:
  • Clear Christmas Ornaments - set of 12 purchased at Hobby Lobby for $7.99
  • Dried Flowers from the bridal bouquet
  • Ribbon

  • Pull top of ornament off and insert flower petals.  I used tweezers to move the petals around to my liking.

  • Tie ribbon to top.  Ribbon from wedding decorations.

I hope you enjoyed todays tutorial.  As always, comments are welcomed and appreciated!

Here Comes the Bride!

Hello, Friends!  So, glad you stopped by today!  As I've said before, my son is getting married this month and I've been tasked with helping using my crafty skills.  Today I'm showing you the signs that will be carried down the aisle by the bride's twin five-year-old nephews.

Cricut Cartridge:  StoryBook
Punch:  Martha Stewart
Other:  Artist Canvas.  Mod Podge Glimmer, Mod Podge Matte, Clear Acrylic Spray

Recipe:
  • Artist Canvas = purchased at Hobby Lobby.  Size is 16" x 20".
  • Border = punch several lace borders using Martha Stewart punch.  Borders were attached using Mod Podge Glimmer.

  • Letters = cut at 3" using Cricut StoryBook cartridge.  Letters attached with Mod Podge Matte.  Once dry, add a second coat of Mod Podge Matte.
  • Spray completed signs with Clear Acrylic to protect.

I will probably add some ribbon at the back to allow the signs to hang from the children's necks.

I hope you enjoyed today's project.   As always, comments are welcomed and appreciated!

Hope you have a blessed day and thanks for stopping by!  ~ Marilyn

Baby Sprinkle Diaper Cake

Hi friends!  I've created a baby diaper cake that combines diapers, Cricut cuts, receiving blankets, and wash cloth designs.

This is a diaper cake I made for a friend.  She is giving a baby shower for her niece.  Since it's a second baby, they're calling it a "Baby Sprinkle Party" instead of a "Baby Shower Party."

Baby Sprinkle Diaper Cake
Here is what you need:
  • About 50 diapers (I used size #2 Luv's diapers)
  • Baby Blankets (I used 3 receiving blankets and 1 baby fleece blanket)
  • Ribbon
  • Rubber Bands
  • Corsage Pins
  • 23 Baby Wash Cloths
  • Marabou (pink fluffy stuff)
  • Googly Eyes
  • Foam Board (6" circle hand cut)
  • Cake Board
  • Cricut Cartridges:  April Showers, Create a Critter, StoryBook, Accent Essentials
  • Cardstock: pink, green, purple
  • Cuttlebug:  Divine Swirls folder
  • Adhesive
  • Stickles

Front of Diaper Cake

First, put the diaper cake together:

Base Layer
  • Lay the fleece blanket out and fold in fourth length-wise.  Form a circle and pin together with corsage pins.
  • Lay receiving blanket out and line with 5 diapers along one edge.  Fold receiving blanket, enclosing the diapers within.  Form a circle and put inside your fleece blanket layer.  You won't need to secure the ends.  Do this again with another receiving blanket.
  • Roll diapers from open end and secure with rubber bands.  Fill the space still available inside of fleece blanket.
  • Wrap a ribbon around and tie a bow.
Back of Cake

Top Layer:
  • Lay receiving blanket and line with 5 diapers along one edge.  Fold receiving blanket, enclosing the diapers within.  Form a circle and secure with corsage pins.  *Tip:  Enclosing diapers within your receiving blanket will make it more thick and attractive.
  • Fill inside of top layer with diapers that have been rolled and secured with rubber bands.
  • Wrap a ribbon around and tie a bow.
  • Set the top layer on top of base layer.
Frog made with wash cloths

Decorating the Cake (using wash cloth designs):
  • Frog:  The frog was created using 3 nine inch baby wash cloths, small clear hair bands, two pipe cleaners and googly eyes.  Instructions for assembly are available from Topsy Turvy for $3.99 (sorry, I'm not authorized to give you the instructions free).  Purchased instructions include template for the frog's crown.
  • Lily Pad:
    • cut eight 4 1/4" pink leaves and eight 4 1/4" green leaves from Cricut Accent Essentials cartridge: [Accnt41-s] found on page 72 of the folder.
    • cut a 6" circle from foam board
    • attach the pink leaves around the top of the form board
    • attach the green leaves around the bottom of the form board
    • top with marabou (about 6" is enough)
    • place frog on top.  Frog is secured to lily pad with a pipe cleaner.
  • Flowers around the fleece base layer:  each flower is created using 2 nine inch baby wash cloths.  You can purchase the instructions here for $3.99.

Decorating the Cake (without using wash cloth designs):
  • I have made a lot of really cute diapers cakes without any wash cloth designs.  You could cut the frog from Create a Critter, hot glue to popsicle stick and insert it onto the top of the cake.  The flowers around the base can also be done using Cricut cuts.  Here is an example of a diaper cake decorated entirely with Cricut cuts.

Decorated Cake Board

Decorating the Cake Board:
  • Baby's Name (Berkley) = cut letters and shadow at 1 1/2" from Cricut StoryBook cartridge.  Accent with Stickles.
  • Flowers / Umbrellas / Watering Cans / Rain Boots = cut three each at 1 1/2" from Cricut April Showers cartridge.  Flowers are accented with Stickles.
  • Frog / Lily Pad / Crown = cut at 4" from Cricut Create a Critter cartridge; [Frog] found on page 24 of the folder.  Crown is accented with Stickles.  Lily pad is embossed using Cuttlebug "Divine Swirls" folder.
Added Note:  If you are giving the cake as a gift, wrap with clear cellophane and tie with a bow.

I hope your enjoyed todays project, and as always, comments are appreciated.

Thank you for stopping by and Have a blessed day!

Bridal Shower Layout

Hi friends!  Marilyn here and I have a confession to make:  this is my FIRST layout - ever

First, I have my tip of the day for you.... Scrapbooks are a blessing.  Seriously, the memories we document today will be treasured beyond our lifetimes.

Instead of having these photos tossed and forgotten in a shoe box, I now have this great and lasting keepsake.

Bridal Shower Layout

Here is what you need:
  • 12" scrapbook design paper.  Mine came from K&Company "SW Spring Blossom."
  • Cricut cartridges:  Pretty Pennants, Storybook, Sweethearts
  • Cardstock:  black, orange, yellow
  • Twine
  • Foam Tape
  • Bling (gems and such)
  • Adhesive
  • White gel pen
  • Family Photos

Layout Recipe:

Page Banner
  • Cut a piece of twine the length of your scrapbook page.  Pull through a dollop of glue and lay onto your scrapbook page.  Make two bows and glue to each end.
  • Cut banners from Cricut Pretty Pennants cartridge at 1 1/2" [BnrSclp1].  Attach to twine with foam tape.
  • Cut letters from Cricut Storybook cartridge at 1".  The apostrophe on the "S" is actually the center from the letter "A".
  • "Bridal Shower" = cut image and shadow at 2 1/2" from Cricut Sweethearts cartridge; [Shower] found on page 51 of the folder.  Somewhere between the cutting and attaching, I lost the dot for the "I", so I used a gem in place.
  • Photos:  Each photo is layered with black cardstock; cut to size.
  • Name Banners:  cut at 1 1/2" from Cricut Pretty Pennants cartridge at 1 1/2" [BnrSclp1].  Add a white gem at the top.  Names are handwritten using a white gel pen.

  • Journal Panel:  cut image and shadow at 2 1/4" from Cricut Storybook cartridge; [Marque2-s] found on page 66 of the folder.

I hope your enjoyed todays project, and as always, comments are appreciated.

Thank you for stopping by and Have a blessed day!

Wedding Towel Cake

Bridal Shower is tomorrow for my future daughter-in-law.  I purchased towels on her bridal registry and decided it would be more interesting and fun to give them in the form of a wedding cake.

Ingredients:
  • Towels:  2 bath, 1 hand, 1 finger tip purchased at Bed, Bath & Beyond
  • Cricut Cartridge:  Accent Essentials, Plantin SchoolBook, Storybook, Sweethearts
  • Punch:  Heart punch from Martha Stewart
  • Other:  Glimmer Mist "Iridescent Gold", Glimmer Mist "Lemon Zest", Glimmer Mist "Peach Delight", white tulle, gems, Stickles, corsage pins from Michaels, Popsicle Sticks from Michaels, green paint, hot glue.

Towel Cake
Towel Cake Recipe:
  • Bottom Layer:  Roll finger towel and 1 bath towel together.  Wrap the hand towel around and secure in back with corsage pins.
  • Top Layer:  Roll 1 bath towel.  Secure in back with corsage pins.
  • * Bath Towels are folder length-wise into fourths.
  • Tie white tulle around both layers.
  • Bells on bottom layer:  cut image and shadow at 2" from Cricut Sweethearts cartridge; [Bells] found on page 56 of the folder.  Gem glued to center of bow image.  Tie onto tulle with white twine.
  • Flowers = cut 20 each (all from white card stock):  one set at 2", one set at 1 3/4", one set at 1 1/2" - from Cricut Accent Essentials cartridge; [Accent24-s] found on page 54 of the folder.  Spray half of 2" and 1 3/4" flower cuts with Glimmer Mist "Iridescent Gold."  Spray other half or 2" and 1 3/4" flower cuts with Glimmer Mist "Lemon Zest."  Set aside to dry.  Spray all of the 1 1/2" flower cuts with Glimmer Mist "Peach Delight."  Set aside to dry.  Once dry, the flowers will be colored as white shimmer, yellow shimmer and peach shimmer.
  • Flower Stems = paint round popsicle sticks with green paint and set aside to dry.
  • Flower Leaves = cut at 10 (from green card stock):  one set at 1 3/4", one set at 1 1/2" = from Cricut Accent Essentials cartridge; [Accent41-s] found on page 72 of the folder.
  • Flower Assembly = bend each flower petal in the center.  Glue together one each: 2" in white, 1 3/4" in yellow, 1 1/2" in peach. Other flowers will be assembled as:  2" in yells, 1 3/4" in white, 1 1/2" in peach.  Glue gem to center of each flower.  Glue one leaf to back.   Attach to green popsicle stick using hot glue.  I chose to make some flowers without the 2" flower layer.

  • Poke the flower sticks around the bottom cake layer.
  • Top flowers are attached with foam tape.
  • Car at top = cut image and two shadows at 3 3/4" from Cricut Sweethearts cartridge; [CarCuple] found on page 65 of the folder.  After assembled, hot glue a green popsicle stick to the back of the car's shadow.  Attach the second shadow to the back using foam tape around the popsicle stick.
  • Date on back of car = cut at 1/2" from Cricut Plantin SchoolBook.

Cake Board
Cake Board:
  • Flowers = cut seven flowers from white card stock at 1 1/2".  Spray with Glimmer Mist "Peach Delight."  Once dried, glue around edge of cake board.  Add a gem to the center.
  • Names "Jessica & Dave" = cut letters and shadows at 2" from Cricut Storybook cartridge.  Glue around edge of cake board.  Punch two small hearts and glue on either side of the "&" symbol.  Add stickles to "&" symbol.
  • Heart & Couple Silhouette = cut image and shadow at 5" from Cricut Sweethearts cartridge; [HeartCpl-s] found on page 40 of the folder.
  • Text "I Do . . . " cut at 1" from Cricut Sweethearts cartridge; [Ido-s] found on page 60 of the folder.

MCCR - Wedding Ideas

My son is getting married this coming October.  To save some money, we have decided to make some of the wedding décor items ourselves (the bride-to-be is crafty, too).  It's so fun to make it yourself!

Here are some of the items we are currently working on:

Wedding Ideas - Wall Decor

I've used an 8" x 10" canvas purchased at Michaels to create the following wall décor.

Wedding Wall Décor
8" x 10" canvas
Wall Décor Recipe:
  • Paint canvas using Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint "Pumpkin Orange."
  • Mix gold glitter (I used Martha Stewart fine glitter) with Mod Podge "Luster" and paint over dried canvas.
  • Cut "Happily Ever After" at 5.75" from Cricut Storybook cartridge; found on page 69 of the folder.  Attached with Mod Podge mixture.  Once dry add an addition coat of the Mod Podge mixture.
  • Add brown twine around the "Ever" text with white glue.  I used Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive.

  • Punch four butterflies using Martha Stewart punch - three in brown and one in beige.  Coat each with the Mod Podge mixture and let dry.  Attach to canvas using the same Mod Podge mixture.  Use Liquid Pearls to create head of butterflies.  Bend tips of wings up.

  • The beige butterfly also had some of the orange paint dabbed on to it.
  • Punch several small flowers using a Martha Stewart punch.  Attached with Mod Podge mixture.  Use Liquid Pearls to create center of flowers.

  • Use a Martha Stewart border punch to create the lace borders.  Attached diagonally using the Mod Podge mixture.   After drying, add a second coat of Mod Podge mixture over the borders.
  • Add color coordinating twine and attach using white glue.
  • Punch flower accent with Martha Stewart punch.  Use Liquid Pearls for flower center.  Attach with white glue.

MCCR - Wow Wedding Weekend Blog Hop

DIY Wedding Gifts and Cards.   There's nothing better than giving something that you made yourself - and it doesn't hurt if you saved a bundle in the process!

Glass Etching - Storybook cartridge

To make a glass etched flute:
  • Using vinyl, cut an initial from Storybook cartridge to a size to fit your flute.  Mine was approximately 1.5".
  • Use the negative of your cut and place on the flute.  (Remove the initial and use the stencil portion of the vinyl.)
  • Use painter's tape to cover outlining edges of the vinyl.
  • Apply a good amount of Armour Etching cream.  Be careful not to get any on the rest of the glass.   Wait about 30 minutes (even though instructions say less time.)
  • Rinse under running water in your sink (yep, it's safe.)
  • Remove vinyl and painter's tape and admire your etched glass.

* Note - I found that the less expensive glasses etch the best.  I purchased my flute in a package of 4 from Walmart.     The Armour Etching cream is expensive but lasts and lasts and lasts.   Use a coupon to purchase initially.

Sweethearts cartridge

  • Cards created using Sweethearts cartridge. Card on right "His and Her Towels" is one of a set of 8 thank-you cards. The lace at bottom of card is actually paper that was punched from a Martha Stewart punch.
Accent Essentials cartridge
  • The part that took the longest to create were these little pink rose buds on the package. Each rose bud was created by combining six flowers (cut at one inch) from the Accent Essentials cartridge. The leaves are from a punch.
